As we reported earlier, both PwnageTool 4.2 for Mac and Sn0wbreeze 2.2 for Windows are now available which can preserve baseband, and jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on iOS 4.2.1 firmware.

This new version of PwnageTool and Sn0wbreeze also incorporates kernel based GreenPois0n exploit, which means that you can now create untethered 4.2.1 custom firmware files without the upgraded baseband so that you can unlock with current version of Ultrasn0w.

Simply follow the step by step instructions in the video embedded below to create custom 4.2.1 IPSW file without the upgraded baseband to jailbreak your iOS device.

Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can unlock your iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G on the old baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.2.

NOTE: You can also use this with iPhones which are flashed on 06.15 baseband so you can restore with this CFW (custom firmware).

iPhone developer and hacker ih8sn0w has released Sn0wbreeze 2.2 (aka PwnageTool for Windows) for creating iOS 4.2.1 custom firmware files on Windows. Just like the recently released PwnageTool for Mac, Sn0wbreeze 2.2 also incorporates the kernel based GreenPois0n exploit for untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.

The highlight feature of Sn0wbreeze 2.2 is the new "Baseband Preservation Mode”. This new mode enables current iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G users to preserve their baseband while upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 so that they can unlock using existing version of Ultrasn0w.

Also new in Sn0wbreeze 2.2 is the ability to play Pac-Man game to keep you busy while the custom IPSW is being built for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, along with the ability to change boot logos, thanks to GreenPois0n RC5 /6 exploit.

PwnageTool 4.2 for iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Released!

The iPhone Dev Team has just released official version of PwnageTool4.2 which incorporates the new kernel based exploit of GreenPois0n for creating full untethered iOS 4.2.1 custom firmware files. Almost all iOS devices are supported except for iPod touch 2G.

List of supported devices by PwnageTool 4.2 includes:

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4 Verizon
iPod touch 3G
iPod touch 4G
iPad
Apple TV 2G

When to use PwnageTool over GreenPois0n? If your iPhone relies on a carrier unlock, YOU MUST use this version of PwnageTool to create custom 4.2.1 firmware files without the upgraded baseband so that you can unlock your phone on the old baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.2.

Instructions for jailbreaking using PwnageTool are similar to the last release, simply follow them as posted here. Select iOS 4.2.1 IPSW file where required.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone 4 using PwnageTool

Requirements:

iOS 4.2.1 original firmware of your device saved on your computer (Download Here)
iTunes 10.1.2 installed on your Mac (Download link)
Download PwnageTool 4.1.3 for Mac

Modifying PwnageTool

Step 1: Download PwnageTool bundle (via) for your iPhone 4 device. Extract the .zip folder, and copyiPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148.bundle to your desktop.
Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.1.2 and copy it to your desktop. Right click, and then click on "Show Package Contents”
Step 3: Copy the .bundle files to PwnageTool.app/Content/Resources/FirmwareBundles/

Step 4: Copy info.plist goes inside PwnageTool.app/Content/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/ (IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT CYDIA IN YOUR IPSW)

Building a Custom Firmware

Step 1: Launch latest version of iTunes 10.1.2 and sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac for backup.
Step 2: Double click to start PwnageTool. Click Ok, if prompted with a warning. Click to select Expert Mode from the top menu bar and then select your iPhone 4. Click Blue arrow button at the bottom right to continue.

Step 3: Click the Browse for IPSW… button and then select your firmware from the Pwnage folder (refer Step 2).

Step 4: You will be prompted to select one of the option from following window. Select General then click the blue arrow button to continue.

Step 5: Under General settings "DO NOT” check Activate the phone. This bundle supports legit activation only

Step 6: Now the Cydia settings window will allows you to create custom packages. Double click any of the packages to select. For example, double click on OpenSSH, it will then appear under Select Packages tab.

Step 7: Click Select Packages Tab and then select OpenSSH as shown in the screen below.

Step 8: You are now ready to begin the pwnage process! Click the Build button to select it then click the Blue arrow button to begin.

Step 9: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone. You will be prompted to save custom .ipsw firmware file. Save it to the desktop. It might take 10-15 minutes for building custom firmware.

Step 10: Now its time to restore your iPhone 4 to this custom firmware iOS 4.2.1.

Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes.
Press and hold left "alt” button ("Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on "Restore” (Not "Update” or "Check for Update”) button in the iTunes
Now, release the "Shift” button.

Step 11: iTunes will now prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.2.1 Once your iPhone 4 is successfully in DFU mode.

Step 12: Once In iTunes, hold the Alt/Option key and click Restore.

Step 13: Now select the custom IPSW that was created and click the Choose button. Wait for a while till iTunes installs the new firmware 4.2.1 on your iPhone. After the installation is done, iPhone 4 will restart automatically. You have now successfully jailbroken iPhone running iOS 4.2.1.

Step 14: After jailbreaking iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1, you can now restore all your settings, apps, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version iOS 4.2.1 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 1 from iTunes.

Those who were earlier unlocked on baseband 01.59.00 can now proceed further to unlock their iPhone 4 using ultrasn0w.

How to Jailbreak PlayStation 3 on 3.55

Step 1: Plug a USB stick into your computer

Step 2:Download Jailbreak.zip

Step 3:Create folder PS3 and then create folder UPDATE inside it.

Step 4:Unzip Jailbreak.zip to PS3UPDAT.PUP and put PS3UPDAT.PUP filein /PS3/UPDATE/ folder of your USB drive.

Step 5:Power down you PS3 console and put USB drive.

Step 6: Now press and hold the power button, the system will startup and shutdown again.

Step 7:Release the power button, then press and hold power again, you’ll hear one beep followed by two consecutive beeps.

Step 8:Release power then follow the on-screen instructions. You’re now in the recovery menu.

Step 9:Connect the USB device and select "System Update.”

Step 10:Choose Update via Storage Media

Step 11:It will say it found Version 3.55-jb

Step 12:Choose OK

Step 13:Accept Conditions and Install Update

Step 14:After less than a minute, your PS3 will update, beep 4 times then shut down.

Step 15:Power up your PS3 (You will have to do it on the console and not by the controller)

Your PS3 console on firmware 3.55 is jailbroken now
